(NewsMadura) — An Indonesian man faces arrest after disguising himself as his wife to board a plane.
The disguise was intended to enable the man to fly, even though he had reportedly tested positive for Covid-19. However, his wife had tested negative, so he used her ID and negative PCR test results to board the plane at Jakarta’s Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, the report said.
It is unclear whether the man would have been caught had he not given up his ruse in the air.
A flight attendant is said to have told authorities she saw “DW” going into an airplane bathroom and then coming out wearing men’s clothes instead of the niqab – a face veil with an opening for the eyes. She informed the airport authorities in Ternate, who detained the passenger as they got off the plane.
An on-site health official immediately tested the man for Covid-19 and the PCR test came back positive, officials said.
After that, “the airport immediately contacted the Ternate City Covid-19 Handling Task Force team to evacuate the man while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), then take him to his home (in Ternate City) in an ambulance. to self-isolate, where he will be accompanied by task force officers,” Ternate Covid-19 Task Force Operations Chief Muhammad Arif Gani told reporters.
Once his self-isolation period is over, the local police have stated that they intend to prosecute “DW”.
In addition, the roll-out of vaccines has been slow. Only about 6% of the total population has been fully vaccinated to date.
